Martha's Vineyard
Martha's Vineyard has always been a cut off community figuratively and physically. Because of this the island itself has really been a different place from the rest of the mainland. Also due to the small year round population, the island's community is very close with each other. Even today the year round population is still only about 17,000 which is very small by today’s standards. The Islands economy runs on tourism and it is a central part of the islands identity. However the tourist season only last from May till September and the rest of the year is rather quiet.
According to census.gov the islands population is 90% white which is mostly English and Portuguese.
